UPDATE 11/21/15 I found a new version of the large playset that comes in an all English box. This seems to be Toyco's store version of the large playset using thier own box design rather than the DFC box copy.
Canada's Toyco is a shameless imitator of DFC. They put out playsets, cards and bags of fantasy figures in 1983 that closely mirror DFC's Dragonriders of the Styx.

The yellow wizard is fairly rare. |

I think these are bootlegs but I am not certain. |
* |
Unlike the DFC dragonrider, Toyco's can be removed. |
Toyco's demons are actually a little better quality than the DFC demons. |

The mini guy is about the same size as the barbarians. |
These mini versions are very rare. |

This is the version sold in stores, it is a flat out copy of DFC's box art and even has pictures of DFC figures. Photo from an ebay auction.

![]() This is the catalog version of the playset with the original box art in the picture above. |
The picture on the side of the box shows bright green dragonriders, but the ones in the box are standard green. |
Great article. Helped me ID a bunch of figures I just picked up. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, and glad I could help.
DeleteWell Toyco may have been shameless in ripping off DFC, but DFC was shameless in ripping off TSR so it's all cyclical like that.
ReplyDeleteLovely post thanks for posting.
ReplyDeleteNot sure how much activity this blog still has, and thus if the author'll see it, but it turns out Toyco also did a Dungeons Of Castlelon ripoff, "Donjons De Castlelon".

Looking at the toy photo on the bottom right, doesn't seem Toyco bothered to reproduce the awesome underground dungeons of the original DFC playset, it's just a cropped version of the photo on the back of the Dragons And Demons box.
Thanks for that information. This blog is not dead. I am going to make an announcement about my long absence and the future of the blog on March 1, 2025.
