Durham Industries put out one playset in 1983 called the Fantasy Fortress. It came with six poses in two colors. They are marked "Durham" on the bottom but the mark is hard to see. The figures also came in bags with the generic label "Special Value."
These are great. I am doing a trade with someone for one of each sculpt, and I can't wait to get them. This is the first time I've seen a picture of the fortress. So, so cool.
ReplyDeleteNew to me! the fat demon looks life the underground comic "Checkered demon".
ReplyDeleteLove the art on that box! And just such a cool looking playset.
ReplyDeleteI am green with envy. I love these guys so much and I am very sorry I own none. Fortress AND box? That is awesome.
ReplyDeleteYa, it was amazing when the playset came up on ebay. I went from not knowing that it existed, to paying way too much for it all in one week. I have not seen another of these playsets either before or after I got this one. I did find a white version of the mountain that came in a more traditional military playset, but I don't know what the playset was called.
ReplyDeleteThey remind me of John Carter of Mars.
ReplyDeleteMan, I had a bid on eBay on an unopened bag of these figures from the playset; had the flag in the bag too. The guy ended the auction. So bummed now. I'm not even that picky about having a sealed bag of them. I just wish I could find the rest of the figures I don't have yet! I noticed you don't have the flag either...that would be a nice touch!
ReplyDeleteI missed that auction. Did the bag have the same "special value" label as the bag I have pictured, or did it have a cooler header card? You might try the LRG board for trades.
DeleteHe has posted it back up; I guess he was paranoid that I was going to win it for 10 dollars when he had a buy it now of 150 and didn't have any other bids yet. Anyways, it is a clear bag from the playset box; doesn't have a header bag.
