Tehnolog, Russian for technologist, started producing plastic figures sometime in the 1990s. Over the years, they have greatly expanded the range of their offerings and steadily improved the quality of the figures. Early figures are around 60mm and the most recent production is 54mm. The product line is called Fantasy Battles and is really more akin to a wargame than traditional toy soldiers. Tehnolog has probably produced more fantasy figures in toy soldier scale than any other company. The quality of the detail on some of the figures is amazing. The only problem I have with Tehnolog is that the figures come in very few action poses. Most of the figures are in the "standing around looking cool" pose. I suspect that the lack of bases limits the poses they can use. Tehnolog also produces historical figures, some sci fi and an extensive line of post apocalyptic figures. Most of the fantasy figures have recently been rereleased in soft plastic.

ReplyDeleteNote: "tehnolog" is Russian for "technologist", not "technology" (that's "tehhologia").
Thanks for the comment and the better translation.
ReplyDeleteWhat a terrific blog you have here!! Such a joy seeing all these great toys/figures throughout your site! And I had no idea there were so many different tehnolog sets. I have only a couple of them and I think they are wonderful, but like you I wish there were more action poses. Also, thanks for showing the older sets, the dwarves and goblins! I must hunt them down now!
ReplyDeleteThank you, and best of luck.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your excellent blog - I'm now in the process of collecting and painting the more recent fantasy figures from ebay, and looking out for the older ones where I can. I really appreciate your providing such a great resource. It seems there is more limited availability of the post-apocalyptic figures, on ebay uk at least..

ReplyDeleteHi Shaun, thanks for an excellent post. Tehnolog is a company I'm really getting into. I'm interested in trying to start a community group of FB, but trying to find images to start off the group is a nightmare (there are very few from the official website that are of a decent resolution). Would it please be possible to use one of yours (with your website watermark) as the group banner until a member of the group can offer an alternative?
ReplyDeleteRichard, I don't mind people using pictures from my site, but I do appreciate a little credit. I don't know if I have a website watermark. Go right ahead and use the pictures. I'm not on FB and never will be (personal issue), but I wish you the best of luck.
DeleteThanks very much. I'll add a watermark if I use one. If you do ever fancy popping your head in the group can be found here:

I collect toy soldiers for a wargames club at school with 8- to 11-year-olds. So I appreciate the effort you have put into your site. It helps with finding the right thing.
The hard plastic Purple Dwarfs and Green Goblins are not by Tehnolog.Do you know who did them?
ReplyDeleteMy source in Russia says that they are tehnolog, just old an rare.
Deletel
ReplyDeleteonce again, many of these figures are knock offs of older games Worshop/Citadel Warhammer/Advanced heroquest figures. The "rare" blue dwarves have the arms and feet of the old versions but heads of newer warhammer figures, the "rare" green "dwarves" are actually night goblins; the second one in is known as a night goblin fanatic in Warhammer fantasy Battle game. I guess copyright lawsuits go nowhere in Russia, because they would have surely been recognized by many in the U.K. or U.S.A. who collect table top miniatures and sooner or later brought to the attention of Games Workshop.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking for the Tehnolog 54mm hard plastic (polystyrene) "Peter the Great" sets, also the "Zaporozhcy Cossack" sets in hard plastic. Does any know where I can purchase some of these sets? These sets in hard plastic no longer seem to be available on eBay.
