10/2/2019 Finally completed my set of these guys and just in time because of the prices they are fetching these days.
These came in surprise bags released some time in the 90s or early 2000s. There are 16 figures based on Greek mythology. They are about 50mm, and are made of soft plastic. Only released in Europe as far as I know. Very rare. Most people think they were made by Yolanda of Spain, but I do not know for certain.

I found this picture on the net (MXD I think). |

This picture is also from MXD I think |

This picture is also from some place on the net. |

Found this picture on the net a few years ago, I don't remember where. |
One of my favorite obscure lines. I have about half of them and am hoping to eventually complete a set.
ReplyDeleteMore suprises!!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could find these guys. They seem awesome.
ReplyDeleteWere these released in the states, or is this more of a European line? They are amazing and from what I can tell insanely expensive. Just wondering how much of a chance I could have of ever finding them in the wild...(as in garage sales and flea markets), cause there is no way I can afford them on ebay!
ReplyDeleteAs far a I know, they were only available in Europe.
ReplyDeleteI actually had a few of these (or a predecessor range?) around '94-97 and let them go (thought mine were more 'alien' than 'monster'?) and it's an unproven theory of mine - with no supporting evidence either way - that they might have been made/supplied by Yolanda from Spain - compare:

...but I also have some similar figures like this marked Panosh?
In around 1996/7 I got involved in clearing a warehouse full of lucky bags and cheap snacks following a fire but by then the contents were so poor I only got a few handfuls of 30mm guards drum-majors, and some sailing-ship flats, both of the cheapo Christmas Cracker variety! We were shovelling them into skips!
Interesting theory, and thanks for the info. I don't have any solid information on who made these either, but I have suspected that they were made by Tehnolog. I only say that because they look like early Tehnolog figures. Yolanda is just as likely.
DeleteExcellent figures, that Minotaur and Mer-Man with trident in particular. Congratulations on these!
ReplyDeleteThanks much. It took me almost a decade to fine a complete set. Scylla was the last figure I need and I finally made a traded to get one. I can't imagine trying to put a set of these together today. They are selling for much higher prices than I would be willing to pay.
DeleteI saw a Scylla sell for £150+ 😧
DeleteCrazy money. Fortunately I found another one. I had a few of these as a kid but only recently rediscovered them as I couldn't remember their name. You've a great set here, love the purple Echidne and silver Scylla.
Do you happen to have anything available for sale or trade now youve completed your set?
Thanks for the kind words. I think I know the auction you are talking about. I'm glad to have gotten mine in a trade. i have a few left that i will put up on my figures trade page when I find the time.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I'll keep an eye out for them in your trades.
DeleteAlso, I remember HnH Horror Bags being available in UK newsagents during the very early 90s, sometime between 1991 and 1993, as it was before my family moved house. They weren't popular at all and the sweets were crap, so most kids just didn't bother with them. They were essentially a last resort cheap toy fix.
Oh, cool! I have a purple gorgon from this line and I've always wondered since I was a kid what it was from. Now I feel really good after finding out! It's a mystery I can finally put to rest.
