UPDATE 11/21/15 I found a new version of the large playset that comes in an all English box. This seems to be Toyco's store version of the large playset using thier own box design rather than the DFC box copy.
Canada's Toyco is a shameless imitator of DFC. They put out playsets, cards and bags of fantasy figures in 1983 that closely mirror DFC's Dragonriders of the Styx.

DeleteWell Toyco may have been shameless in ripping off DFC, but DFC was shameless in ripping off TSR so it's all cyclical like that.

Looking at the toy photo on the bottom right, doesn't seem Toyco bothered to reproduce the awesome underground dungeons of the original DFC playset, it's just a cropped version of the photo on the back of the Dragons And Demons box.

DeleteThank you, FTS, for all the great content. I was able to obtain some of the Toyco figures off ebay. They may be copies of the DFC figures, but they have better detail and will match nicely with them. I have not seen a lot of these in America, so I guess they were mostly available in Canada. I've not seen the playsets, except on this blog. I also have added some Helm Toy figures, based on the information and pictures you have provided. They go well together and add variety. The Elves and Orcs sets from Blue Box or their distributor were available on Amazon add additionally to the variety. Curently a production on Amazon called Monster Protectors has a group of 98 figures listed at 54 mm, but he figures vary in actual size and many would be good fits to add to the fantasy wars. There are many knight figures available to join or attack the vintage DNC, Toyco and Helm Toy knight armies.
ReplyDeleteThe Monster Protectors are available through Amazon under SCS Direct and have been featured on this Blog. The "Blue Box" Orcs and Elves were available in Buckets from Amazon, but marketed under a different name. They are stored right now. I don't see them on Amazon any more.
